This process will help prevent calcium/scale buildup in your espresso machine boiler. The water softener is rechargeable by simply placing in a salt solution
Scale buildup is the number one problem of boiler failure. It can lead to premature steam valve leakage, heating coil corrosion and even pump failure--similiar to the effects cholesterol has on the human body.

This is a factory replacement steam knob for the Rancilio Silvia espresso machine. As always, be careful not to overtighten when closing off steam pressure. Should you have trouble closing off steam pressure you should consider descaling your espresso machine. If that does not work, you may have to replace your steam valve.
